What you can expect from this position:

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Response, this role is responsible for the comprehensive maintenance and repair of diverse life safety systems, encompassing preventative measures, component replacement, and system installations, while ensuring operational readiness and compliance. This includes meticulous inspection, testing, and troubleshooting of sprinkler, hydrant, pump, and related systems, alongside diligent documentation and adherence to technical specifications. The position also involves rigorous on-site monitoring of contractor work, ensuring quality assurance and security protocols, and coordinating with various trades to maintain the integrity of critical life safety equipment, including fire pumps, flow devices, and backflow preventers.

As a Sprinkler and Fire Protection Installer, you will:

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on diverse life safety systems, including sprinkler, hydrant, and pump systems, through inspection, component replacement, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation, ensuring operational readiness and compliance
• Undertake, and may coordinate comprehensive system repairs and installations, encompassing interpretation of technical documents, component layout, as-built annotation, troubleshooting, system shutdowns, and testing
• Provide on-site monitoring of the system, repair and maintenance work being performed by outside contractors, including security escort, quality assurance, and reporting for acceptance or correction
• Perform testing, maintenance, trouble shooting and repairs of the Life Safety Systems and Equipment and ensure operational integrity of life safety systems through comprehensive testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair, including fire pumps, flow devices, and backflow preventers, coordinating with electricians and contractors, and documenting system performance.

This unionized position is classified at the Band 8 level, with an hourly wage range of $51.51, based on a 40 hour work week. The successful candidate must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. A test will be administered as a part of the competitive process. An eligibility list may be created.

This is the role for you, if you have:

• Ontario Certificate of Qualification in the trade of Sprinkler and Fire Protection Installer (427A)
• Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience as a Sprinkler Fitter
• Confined Space Entry Certificate
• Valid “G” Ontario Driver’s license
• Ability to acquire a “D/A” Class AVOP license upon appointment to the position
• Ability to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance
