Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION 

  • Provide technical support and services to production.  Writes code to automate power driven equipment that cut and finish metal such as CNC lathes, grinders, mills and turn-mills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates instructions for machinists.
  • Reviews 3D/2D CAD design blueprints.
  • Analyze engineering drawings to determine the feasibility of manufacturing the part on numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Determine the sequence of actions needed to make a part and then program the operations.
  • Evaluate the specifications for a particular part that is to be machine-made.
  • Turn those specifications into a series of numbered, sequential instructions for the machine to follow.
  • Makes calculations for programming including where materials should be cut.
  • Translates instructions into a computer automated manufacturing (CAM) program.
  • Communicates with engineers and team members who will use the programs.
  • Checks completed programs by running simulations or tests.
  • Prepares geometric layout of designs using proper software.
  • Chooses cutting tools that will be required and coordinates with the suppliers for the same.
  • Analyzes job order and performs necessary calculations.
  • Writes programs and modifies existing ones for increased efficiency.
  • Makes improvements to set up times and run times for all the parts / programs
  • Evaluates all completed designs to validate their functions and ensure they successfully reduce time and money.
  • Participate in RCCA for all machining/programming related issues
  • Monitors all programs to make sure they follow blueprint instructions and will safely and successfully complete the task.
  • Complies with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned.
  • Works with minimal supervision.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds

  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles
  • Occasional exposure to moderate noise
  • The ability to wear proper personal protective equipment, including earplugs, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED       

  • A College diploma in manufacturing technology and/or trade certification and experience in machining and tooling or metalworking
  • Experience using Mastercam
  • Degree in CNC programming, a computer-related or mechanical field
  • Well versed in CNC programming for Lathe, Mill, Turn-mill and cylindrical grinding
  • Five plus years' experience in or an equivalent combination of education and experience as mentioned above
