The aerospace industry is among the fastest-growing industries worldwide. In 2025, the market size was estimated at 373.6 billion USD and is projected to double by 2035.
At Queen’s Aerospace Design Team (QADT), we are dedicated to pushing boundaries with the development of high performance & autonomous UAVs for national and international competitions in Canada, Europe, and the United States. With the continued growth in industry aerospace applications in recent years, QADT has seen an unparalleled expansion, and our dedicated team of more than 150 undergraduate students has not disappointed.
Last year, the technical team developed 2 brand new UAVs from the ground up to compete at the AEAC 2025 student competition hosted in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Including a fully carbon fiber fixed wing aircraft with a two-axis gimbal to find and map wildfires, as well as a heavy-lift quadcopter designed to pick-up and drop-off water for autonomous fire extinguishing. While in parallel, the QADT research team wrote two research papers for submission to the IMAV conference paper call and the VFS student design competition. Respectively, these papers focused on the application of DBD plasma actuators to reattach airflow separation and a hydrogen fuel cell powered aircraft design to maximize loitering time.
This year, we are going even further with new designs and initiatives as we prepare to expand our technical capabilities and compete in not just the AEAC 2026 student competition, but also the AIAA Design, Build, Fly competition hosted in Wichita, KS, while continuing to publish leading edge research papers.
QADT offers a unique opportunity for development and growth for students in any discipline, including gaining technical experience in Aeromechanics, Electrical, and Software, and the opportunity to conduct research in a variety of unique fields, as well as the chance to gain experience in business and management. QADT is looking to continue its rapid growth and expansion by taking on like-minded and motivated individuals to not just continue the development of advanced drone technology, but push the boundaries of what student teams are capable of.
We eagerly await your application.

Moving forward, QADT is focusing on developing team operations and streamlining business processes, which is imperative to the growth of QADT. The priority of the Business branch is increasing sponsorship income and improving our impact on the community through outreach, forming a network to promote the team and its impact.
The Marketing Team plays an important role in promoting QADT’s visibility and engagement across diverse audiences. Our team is focused on creating content and strategically managing social media to highlight QADT’s innovative UAV projects and research achievements. The Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the Marketing Manager and other business sub-teams to develop strategies that spotlight QADT’s impact and foster meaningful connections in the aerospace community.
Members looking to join the Marketing team will have the choice of joining either the Social Media or Brand Strategy Team:
Social Media:
The Social Media Team is responsible for managing and growing QADT’s online presence across all digital platforms. Members will create engaging content to showcase our UAV projects, research, and team culture to a diverse audience. This year, we are also hoping to incorporate more short-form video content on our pages to increase visibility and boost engagement. You will also monitor trends and analyze metrics to optimize reach and impact. Social Media members will collaborate closely with the Brand Strategy Team to ensure consistent alignment with QADT’s image. This role offers a great opportunity to develop skills in digital marketing, content creation, and community engagement.
Brand Strategy:
The Brand Strategy Team is looking to expand the QADT's reputation and impact throughout Queens and into the Kingston community. This team will focus on the outward-facing components of marketing—partnership building, increasing visibility, and ensuring that the QADT’s outlook is consistent and professional. Members will work on initiatives such as: team merchandise, designing the media wall alongside Social Media, and collaborating with other clubs and design teams at Queen’s. Our main focus this year is on outreach opportunities that are beyond Queen's, such as community events or specific outreach to Kingston youth and students. Brand Strategy will also work with other internal teams to ensure that the QADT's image is consistent (ie. sponsorship packages, promotional materials, and external partnerships). We are looking for individuals who are logical and creative thinkers, collaboration-oriented, and a team player. Good luck!
