Located in the fly-in community of Old Crow, this position is responsible for providing efficient observer/communicator services at the Old Crow community airport radio station. Duties include providing weather observation and information, providing advisory services for aircraft and vehicle traffic and conducting air/ground communications.

Essential Qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume

  • Experience working in Northern or remote communities
  • Experience working with little direct supervision.
  • Experience using computers, such as basic data entry and email
  • Experience dealing with the public

Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture. Key competencies for success in this role include:

  • Experience using radio communication
  • Experience in the aviation/airport environment
  • Experience in weather observation or meteorology

  • Attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Problem solving skills


Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

  • Industry Canada Restricted Radio Operators Certificate (to be obtained within 6 months of hire),
  • Required to attend, complete and pass the Observer/Communicator course at Aurora College in Fort Smith, NWT (9 weeks of training).

 

Job Requirements

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following job requirements:

  • Shift work including working weekends and statutory holidays.
