Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are looking for an experienced NDT Level 3 to join our growing team in Munich or Bordeaux. This role is a unique opportunity: you will both contribute hands-on to inspection activities in our early production phase and take a leading role in building and structuring our NDT capabilities for the future.

Your mission

  • Perform and supervise Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on critical composite and welded aerospace components, using UT, PT, ET, VT (with RT knowledge as an asset).

  • Support operations in the initial phase by actively performing inspections, ensuring product conformity.

  • Define, validate, and approve NDT techniques in compliance with EN 4179 / NAS 410 and customer-specific standards.

  • Develop inspection procedures and ensure traceability of results.

  • Lead the introduction of automated and advanced inspection systems (e.g., PAUT, robotic NDT).

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production to resolve non-conformities and drive continuous improvement.

  • Contribute to the future setup of the NDT department, including training, mentoring, and qualification of Level 2 inspectors.

Your profile

  • Certified Level 3 according to EN 4179 / NAS 410

    • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) – required

    • Penetrant Testing (PT) – required

    • Visual Testing (VT) – required

    • Eddy Current Testing (ET) – preferred

    • X-Ray testing (RT) - preferred

  • Additional Level III certification according to ASNT-TC-1A (ASNT Level III) or ISO 9712 is highly preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in aerospace, space, defense, or similarly demanding industries.

  • Proven expertise in inspection of composite materials and welded aerospace structures.

  • Knowledge of automated or advanced NDT systems (e.g., phased array, robotic inspection) is a strong asset.

  • Ability to interpret aerospace drawings, technical specifications, and standards (ESA ECSS, Airbus ABD, NASA, etc.).

  • Strong documentation, reporting, and procedure-writing skills.

  • English fluency (working language).

Soft skills

  • Balance of hands-on operational mindset and strategic vision.

  • Autonomous, structured, and motivated to build a new capability from scratch.

  • Open, collaborative, and comfortable working in an international environment.
