Description

Aviation recruitment experts Optime Group have a fantastic opportunity to join a leading client at Gatwick Airport. As a BSL Passenger Service Agent, you’ll support travellers who need special assistance – helping them through the airport with care and professionalism.

What’s on offer:

  • £17.00 per hour (paid weekly)
  • Shift Pattern: 4-on / 4-off rolling rota
  • Shift Timing: 08:00 am to 20:00 pm
  • Weekly pay (every Friday)
  • Full training and airport pass provided.
  • Temp to Perm (performance-based)


Key responsibilities:

  • Interpret British Sign Language from the aphonic, but hearing, BSL user employee into spoken English during their shifts, including meetings, events, training sessions, and other engagements.
  • Working with said employee on their shifts (4 days on 4 days off, 8am to 8pm) helping passengers with Reduced Mobility (PRM), employees, clients, or community members. This includes pushing wheelchairs.
  • Maintain cultural sensitivity and confidentiality across all interactions
  • Stay current with best practices and updates in sign language interpreting

The Airport is operational 7 days per week and candidates will be working on a 4 on 4 off rolling rota and you will need to be fully flexible with the days and hours you can work. Please note, your shifts can start as early as 08:00am. This could be subject to change!

An example of the shift hours:

Day 1: 08:00 to 20:00

Day 2: 08:00 to 20:00

Day 3: 08:00 to 20:00

Day 4: 08:00 to 20:00

4 days off

 

Skills and Experience Required:

Essential

  • Experience in live interpretation from BSL to English (BSL level 3 or higher)
  • Strong knowledge of Deaf culture and British Sign Language nuances
  • Excellent listening and communication abilities
  • Adaptability in fast-paced or emotionally charged environments
  • Empathetic and respectful approach to inclusion
  • Deliver excellent customer service
  • Basic IT Skills

Qualifications & Licences  

Essential

  • Level 3 British Sign Language/English Interpreting or equivalent
  • Strong willingness to improve higher than level 3
